The Life Cycle of a Project from an Accepted Protege View

In any career, especially Advertising, it’s a great day when you see a project through—start to finish. As an intern sometimes that is not always the case, being a part of projects here and there and somewhere in between. Not to mention trying to familiarize yourself with clients and the do’s and don’ts of agency processes. Interning is a rewarding experience for any career and in my opinion, it takes the same dedication and mindset of a full time employee. However, with different time durations of programs it can sometimes be difficult to see the light at the end of the tunnel with your projects. Luckily, this is not the case with my Civilian TAP experience.

In the middle of my spring session as the Account Services TAP, I was tasked with the opportunity to help refine the scripts for several videos. These videos were intended to educate first responders on how to best handle situations with people who have different needs than others in case of in emergency. I felt these videos were an important tool for the San Diego community, especially in the heat of an emergency. Often times, I don’t think people remember the difficulties some individuals face in emergencies when they are mentally ill, dependent on medical equipment or physically unstable.

After the right boxes were checked and production got the green light, I was excited to be able to attend a portion of the production shoot. Leading up to the shoot, many more aspects of planning were a part of this project, such as talent scouting, auditions, and pre-production meetings. Upon the day of attending the shoot it truly brought the scope of the project full circle. Although in theory it seemed like a simple task to shoot, it still took all the man power of any type of video production—including the studio, team members, light preparations, proper background, soundproofing, makeup, ect. Although I was not a part of this project from the very beginning it was a great feeling to see work that I had contributed to come to life.

I enjoyed taking part in a project that is focused on making the San Diego community a better place, something this agency has made great strides in. Civilian has continued to show its strength in working for the common good, especially with this project and I appreciated being able to take part in it.
